About MEDSTAT,
Inc.
MEDSTAT, Inc. was founded in 1989 by Ms.
Marilynn Peters to provide Accounts Receivable Management Services to
physicians who choose not to hire skilled AR management personnel
internally.
 |
|
MEDSTAT
started with two employees in a modest facility of less than 500 square
feet. Today, MEDSTAT employs approximately 40 highly skilled billing
specialists in a 5,000 square foot state-of–the-art, fully electronic,
billing center in northeast Mesa. In addition, two of Ms. Peters’
children have joined the practice to ensure our clients continuity of
service when Ms. Peters retires. Tony has a BS in business and Kelly is
RDMS, and RT certified, as well as being a Certified Professional Coder.
To complete our management team, we have Georgianna, who has a degree in
computer information systems and Brandt who is our hardware technician.
All members of the management team also do random data processing to
keep abreast of new rules and regulations. |
|

MEDSTAT also has four (4) professional coders on their staff. Certified
Professional Coders have had extensive education in the art of CPT and
ICD.9 coding. After training and education, they sit for a five hour
National Board and must pass with 80% to earn the Certification for
Professional Coder. Using proper CPT and ICD.9 codes can have a dramatic
effect on the bottom line of your practice. Certified coders ensure that
a physician is paid for every service that he/she performs. |

Medstat, Inc. uses teams of data processors.
A team is made up of all workers within a pod. Each pod specializes in
certain types of physicians, i.e. Internal Medicine, Surgeons,
Obstetrics & Gynecology, etc. Each member of the team must be able to do
all specialties that are the responsibility of their pod. In addition,
each pod has a highly skilled supervisor who is a “seasoned” data
processor fully capable of helping the data processors with any problems
they might encounter. |

Payments are also specialized. Our payment
posters have all been data processors. A payment poster who has been a
data processor has the ability to determine if the insurance company has
incorrectly bundled or unbundled charges, incorrectly denied a claim, or
paid incorrectly. Payment posters are also specialized by type of
physician. This allows the payment poster to become very efficient in
writing appeals for incorrectly processed claims. |

MEDSTAT, Inc. scans all documents that come
into our office. All encounter forms, as well as all EOBs are scanned.
These scanned documents are readily available to all personnel. This
enables an employee to look at the source document while talking on the
phone to either the patient or the insurance company. |
